It is a remarkably accurate representation of a 15th Century masterwork from the Caucasus (East Asia Minor), conserved in the Islamic Art collection of Berlin's National Museums. The original version is woven of tightly twisted woolen yarns richly pigmented in blue and red with cream and yellow. It depicts highly stylized figural designs of animals and birds amidst trees and flowers. Included among the fauna are imperial dragons which give this dragon carpet its name. Like the original, the modern interpretation is teeming with animal life in lapidary shades of turquoise and ruby, and is a true collector's piece.
